Kochi: Citing personal reasons, Kerala High Court Judge Justice V Giri resigned from his post on 2nd Monday 2009. The resignation letter has been handed over to Chief Justice S R Bannurmath at his residence at around 11 am. Later this letter had sent to the President.
Giri told press persons that the decision to resign was clearly personal. He also said that he have been thinking of quitting the post for the past few months. When I first discussed the matter with the family, they opposed to it.
Now they allow me to go on with my decision, he added.
Son of advocate S Venkita Subramanya Iyer Giri was born on June 10, 1962. He is one of the youngest judges in the Kerala High Court. An alumnus of ILS Law College, Pune, he enrolled on December 14, 1985 and started practice in civil, constitutional and taxation matters in Ernakulam.
He was appointed Additional Judge of the High Court of Kerala on August 1, 2007 and made a permanent judge on April 6, 2009. He has tendered his resignation with 15 years of service left as judge.
Giri said that he would continue practicing at the Supreme Court once his resignation was accepted by the President. Justice K P Dandapani is the only judge of the Kerala High Court to have resigned before this. But he was not a permanent judge at the time.
