Auto-taxi strike called off


Thiruvananthapuram: 24th Wednesday 2009: The auto, taxi workers strike launched by various trade unions on 21st Monday has been called off. The decision was following discussions between thw leaders of the joint action council and cabinet sub committee members Jose Thettayil(Transport Minister) and Elamaram Kareem(Industries Minister). Jose Thettayil assured the trade union leadres that their demand would be reconsidered.
Main assurances are as follows:
1. A revision of the auto-taxi fares will be taken in a month after the studies of a committee comprising Transport Commissioner, Transport Secretary and State Transport Authority Secretary.
2. The demand to withdraw the decision to install meters on autos operating in vllages will also be considered on the basis of the syudy reports.
3. Steps will be taken to reduce the user's fee
4. Discussions will be held with neighboring states to reduce entry tax of vehicles.
